You wake up, roll over, hit the snooze and a choice has already been made that will impact your day. Or at least, that’s how things start for me. I am just amazed how every tiny choice from what I eat, to how I wake up to whether I meditate effects everything about the day as it unfolds.
And what about the bigger choices? What to do with my life; how to find happiness; what do I really want; what does it all mean? Sometimes it just feels paralyzing to think about.
The last 14 months have been all about making different choices – one giant, dramatic experiment. It’s been interesting, enlightening, scary, depressing and all sorts of other things…I’ve learned a lot about myself and about life.
I wish the choices got easier, but they don’t. What’s been interesting is that the little choices impact the big ones. Wake up on the wrong side of the bed, hit the snooze and then somewhere down the line of my day that feeling that I must be “on the wrong track” settles in. Get a good night of sleep, meditate and the same day can be full of gratitude and happiness and a sense of all things being “right in the world.”
So, the moral of the story for me? Each and every choice counts. It doesn’t mean that hitting the snooze is the end of the world, but it does mean that every choice is a chance to make myself happy and fulfill my dreams. I’m off to make today count!
