The years are short, but the days are long

It’s been another one of those amazing few weeks where you want to pinch yourself and ask, “is this for real?” It’s not that each day has been perfect, but it’s such an amazing joy to watch your life unfold and see all sorts of twists and turns your path may take ahead. I seem to be in a place where doors are opening and I am slowly putting one foot in front of the other.

One of my yoga classmates said recently, “the years are short, but the days are long.” It seems so simple, but it was a profound statement and stopped me in my tracks. Since then I’ve been stepping back to consider my life.

For a while now I have been dreading the cubicle where I spend hour after hour, week after week. I felt fairly bummed out as I pondered the long days of my life and how short the years have become. I started considering new paths, new ideas, new ways of spending my days and somehow a flow of energy started to enter into my days. What’s so interesting about this for me is that my job hasn’t changed…I still work in a cubicle and still have the same responsibilities, but it seems that by concentrating on the moments in each day, I began to fill them more and more with the things that inspire me.

Within a few weeks of that profound statement sinking in, so many projects have moved forward in my personal and professional life. From taking on the Africa Yoga Project challenge to building new relationships for CARE with our funders to pushing forward plans for a stronger, happier and more successful work environment – a corner has been turned and it feels so freeing!

In the midst of a very busy few weeks, Craig and I had a beautiful weekend in Yosemite for Jocelin’s wedding. It was one of those weekends where you savor each moment and when it is through, you’re just so grateful to be alive.

So I want to share with you today to try and savor each moment. Not only will that make those long days much more fulfilling, but you may be surprised at what can happen when you energize each moment…miracles may begin to unfold!
