Why does the good stuff hurt?

I mean seriously, why is it the things in life that make you feel the very best – those things that make you love life and yourself and the world – why are they the hardest to do?

It’s the Universe’s dirty trick!

I love to meditate, exercise, cook healthy food, read books and have long conversations with my friends and yet…nights fly by with my butt on the couch, watching stupid TV shows and eating meals that take me less than 15 minutes to prepare. Days fly by where I feel lucky if I finished a load of laundry or washed my own dishes – WHAT’s the deal?!

Life is so tricky that way. It feels like a constant process of discovering the things that make you feel good, committing to integrating those things more into your life and then watching them slip away from your routine…then starting all over again.

Running is a great example. I’ve been successful for over a month at running at least every other day and it feels great! But it’s not the first time I’ve gotten this far on the journey towards becoming a real ‘athlete’ and the truth is, something will come up that breaks my new habit and forces me to restart it…but there’s likely to be a serious gap until I’ve built up the motivation to give it another try.

The last time I went through this with running you ask? January of this year. I made it through the tough part and was really enjoying that runner’s ‘high’, but then I left for India in February and it took me until mid-June to work up the motivation to get back on track.

Sigh…it’s seriously a bummer that God, or the Universe, or whatever you call it, decided to make life this way.

To that, most people would tell me that if it were easy, I wouldn’t appreciate it the same way…they may be right, but boy does it sound great to not have to work so hard at being happy! It’s just so counter-intuitive!! If it makes you feel good, why does it feel like pulling teeth to get myself to do it?!

Today was a good day. I got a lot done at work, I had a delicious dinner with my dear friends and I even ran a few miles. Tomorrow is a new day and let’s hope I can keep it up.

Good night dear friends.

xoxo
